The Andrew “Red” Harris Foundation Reef The Andrew “Red” Harris Foundation funds the construction of artificial reef cells that are then donated to the Palm Beach County Artificial Reef Program for placement on sites in the ocean off Jupiter, Florida. These sites are permitted by the Army Corps of Engineers for artificial reef construction. The Foundation was created to honor the memory of Andrew Harris who was struck by a boat while snorkeling in the Jupiter Inlet on June 8, 2014. The foundation’s work will help assure the long-term health and vibrancy of the local marine environment where Andrew loved to dive and fish. The Foundation’s 2015 summer project is the construction of a new northern Palm Beach County reef built with forty 6’ x 8’ x 8’ concrete artificial REEF CELL modules at a cost of approximately $120,000. The 2016 summer project will be built with up to 100 modules off Juno Beach. The unique REEF CELL design, rising eight feet from the sea floor, will create highly functional reef structures that will quickly begin to look like Bahamian coral heads. Twenty REEF CELL modules had been completed by the end of May, 2015- go to http://andrewredharrisfoundation.org to see pictures. The new reefs will be built on offshore sites that are vast underwater sand plains. The Foundation will continue to build productive new reefs on unproductive sites off the shores of northern Palm Beach County. Our goal is to help the marine habitat can keep pace with the increasing pressure on it from a variety of destructive influences including population growth and climate change. The community will benefit in terms of personal enjoyment and satisfaction in being able to take part in this effort to help build the strength of the marine environment that is the key to the south Florida lifestyle. Additional funding is needed and 100% goes to reef construction- please pitch in! The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) has stated that artificial reefs divert pressure from natural reefs while still allowing visitors to enjoy diverse marine life. Because many of these divers, snorkelers and anglers are eco-tourists who utilize local boat charters, hotels, restaurants and other amenities, artificial reefs can have a positive impact on local economies. In such an instance, the artificial reef would be considered a win-win for the economy and the environment.* According to Alan Richardson, Chair of the Organization for Artificial Reefs based in Tallahassee, FL, he estimated that for every dollar spent locally on artificial reefs, $138 comes back into [local] communities**. Please join us as we continue to build artificial reefs to both enhance our environment and honor the memory of Andrew and everything that was important to him.

What happens in an event of a roof leak with Icynene?
Many of our customers what happens if they have a roof leak while having Icynene Spray Foam applied to the underside of the roof. Well, the answer is this: Icynene has among the best hyrdophobic properties to displace bulk water in a small vicinity of where the roof leak is. Icynene allows for early detection and will completely dry and return back to its full R value. The roof can be repaired accordingly from the exterior, without boards rotting. Here is a recent occurrence below.

Happy Customers Are Our #1 Priority
Last week we did an Icynene Spray Foam job for the Simpson Family. We installed R20 in the attic and R13 in the ext. walls to create a tight, energy efficient retrofit!
"Hello and good evening to you. I just wanted to thank you all for the wonderful work you all did. The two men you all sent out to us I have to say…. They were great! They explained everything and took very good care of properly getting the area ready. From the moment they got there till the time they left they were professional and respectful. The left the place in much better shape than when they got there.

Closed Cell Continuous Insulation: A better commercial system than rigid board.
Paul Duffy, VP Engineering recently spoke with Green Builder magazine regarding the performance and cost advantages of closed cell spray foam insulation over rigid foam board in exterior applications.
If you are an architect who designs commercial buildings in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Delray Beach , take note: You now have the opportunity to maximize energy savings options with a single product: medium density, closed cell spray foam insulation. Icynene ProSeal and Icynene ProSeal Eco provide a high-performance wall assembly solution by combining four functions in one material:
- continuous insulation
- a continuous air barrier
- a water-resistive barrier
- a vapor barrier
Further, closed cell spray foam has been shown to produce a lower installed cost for a superior thermal, air, and water barrier assembly with less labor and less waste than systems relying on rigid board insulation.
When considering building materials for exterior continuous insulation, the default for many is to rely on Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) foam board rather than consider spray foam insulation. There are numerous differences between the two types of products, which can affect every part of your build—from design flexibility to construction schedules.
“The two products we offer commercial architects— Icynene ProSeal and Icynene ProSeal Eco—are high performance closed cell medium density spray foam products,” says Paul Duffy, VP Engineering for Icynene.
“These spray foam products have an equal or higher R value than board stock products. In addition, spray foam has features that board stock does not. Board products are punctured for every fastener and every transition membrane that deflects water to the outside, so you need to use adhesive sealants and tapes for installation, which may require prep surface cleaners that have to be used effectively in order for these products to be continuous air and water barriers.”
Conversely, spray foam, with a few accessories, provides enhanced performance in one step. “This simplified process is a huge step forward for the building industry,” Duffy says.

Icynene Pro Seal in Quonset Hut
Therma Seal's spray team recently finished this application of Icynene Pro Seal, closed cell insulation for this metal Quonset hut in South Florida to create a temperature controlled environment while adding structural strength and integrity. Our spray foam crew ventured out to Wellington, Florida for a unique Icynene Spray Foam project. The customer wanted a temperature controlled environment that was energy efficient and structurally sound. The Icynene Pro Seal is a medium density closed cell spray foam that pulls the building envelope together and can withstand high wind. In South Florida, high winds can be a worrying issue. Needless to say our customer has achieved energy efficiency, building strength, and better air quality, all while using environmentally safe products.

Thinking about upgrading your attic insulation? Watch this!
Attics are one of the most common and largest contributors to air leakage. Air escaping through the attic can lead to higher than normal heating and cooling bills. Warm air from your furnace or cool air from your air conditioner can escape from your attic if it isn’t adequately insulated. If your home has the HVAC equipment stored in an un-insulated attic space, your HVAC could be working overtime especially during the hot summers. This can see your air conditioning bill skyrocket.
By insulating the attic with spray foam insulation, homeowners can curb air leakage, maintain a comfortable home year round and alleviate the formation of ice dams during winter.
Icynene has created a six part video series on a spray foam attic insulation upgrade. Watch the entire series below!
